One Thousand Strawberry Plants, DONE!

We set out this morning (10:30 ish) on our epic Sunday event to plant 1,000 strawberry plants. They arrived at the house on Tuesday and have been sitting in the basement awaiting a break in the rain that has been falling all week. Finally we got one.

We ordered Tribute this year (ever-bearing) plants. We had hoped to get our hands on some Ozarks but once again they were sold out (there's always next year). I was told these would give us a very little this spring and summer but we should have a good size crop this fall. AWESOME!

The plan was to get 1/2 of them in today then farmer Dave would continue the project tomorrow and Tuesday, if needed, to get in the remaining. To our suprise we were completely finished by 1:00. It only took us 2.5 hours--last year took us 4 hrs to plant 500. We did have a little help this year... Farmer Dave, Dutch, Grandpa (the master gardener), me and Babs (our awesome neighbor) stopped by and pitched in a hand. In total our best guess is that we now have over 2,000 plants. We've got alot more ever-bearing than June bearing so we're hoping to have a supply of strawberries all summer long. We're expecting to plant another 1,000 next year and maybe a few more the year after that... then we're at full capacity on the strawberry patch. PHEW!
