WHOO HOO, it’s official!

It’s been three days since closing and we are officially farmers! We walked the entire property on Friday afternoon making our way to each corner finding the property stakes at two of them. HORRAY! We also uncovered a whole mess of Maple trees and a bunch of massive Walnut trees—so you know what that means… Maple syrup is a GO and we’ve added Walnuts to the Master Plan too! We’re not sure how you go about harvesting Walnuts, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out one way or another. Thank goodness for google!If anybody out there has any experience with Walnuts we’d be delighted to hear from you. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen “fresh” walnuts for sale (still in the green husk) so there must be a process for getting those suckers out…. if you have any suggestions we’re all ears!Farmer Dave made the trip to Jackson today and got us all set up for the driveway installation–should be completed in about 2 weeks. He’ll have a high-weed mower out there this weekend (assuming good weather) to make our first pass at getting the jungle weeds under control. Dutch & I are going to sit this one out…. no need for all of us to come home “picker covered” and sneezing.Next Steps: Tilling the 1/4 acre Strawberry Patch–stay tuned!
